Nuances and Marking Layering

Base Coat Nuances

In nature, horse coats vary in shade, tone and consistency, and so these same rules apply to the horses of Moren Ezen.

While all the bases are given examples in the guides, the most accurate depiction you'll find of base coat colours is by searching for real life examples.

Each of our colour swatch examples show the average for that base, some with a gradient of hues to choose from if you wish to work from the provided colours. Please keep in mind however, that these gradiented bases show several colour options and the actual horse coat does not have these drastic gradients.

Variations in the base coat, such as subtle darkening of the withers and hindquarters is allowed. This is to keep designs from appearing flat and give them a little uniqueness.

Imports however cannot be shaded, so please keep in mind that these variations should be subtle and not resemble any shading or other markings.

Variations in coat colour cannot be used to extend markings.

Example:
Shield cannot be extended out of it's range with dark nuances.

Variations in the mane and tail

The mane and tail may show markings who's range cover the tail in their guides. Some markings, such as roan and rabicano, may cause a light fading at the base of the tail, while other markings like silver can cause a gradient. Gradients should be fairly smooth so as not to resemble shading, and should have no texture. White caused by tobiano, splash, etc. should follow the length of the hairs and not create any holes, spots, or horizontal stripes.

Linework Colouring

Linework is allowed to be coloured, but it should always be darker than what it sits over. As such, no markings that can be black should be pure black so that the lines remain visible.

Marking layering

As in nature, some markings appear above or below others. While most guides state if a marking must sit above or below other, we've also simplified a list of marking order. These markings are shown in the order that they show above each other. Those grouped together are interchangeable.
