Mystic
A tabby-like marking that lays directly on the base coat, mystic creates large, rosette-like or marbled bands of darker colour on the horses body, primarily the shoulders, torso and rump. Must be darker than the base. May have some subtle halo effect around the edges, and fading along the underside and face of the horse.
Stripes shouldn't be so thin as to be confused with tahko, and on average no thicker than the width of the horse's legs. Mystic shouldn't have any perfectly round or swirled shapes, and the length of the marks should break and end across the body so that no single mark is continuous over more than half the horse's length.
The geno code for Mystic is written as:
nMy
Dominant Mystic (MyMy) is not viable. Foals that receive two copies of the gene will be born infertile or stillborn.
MYSTIC MUST COVER AT LEAST ONE AREA, AND MAY COVER UP TO THREE.
MYSTIC + ROAN
When Mystic and roan are both present on a geno, the Mystic may restrict the roan so that it does not appear within the Mystic striping, similar to mismarked Appaloosa, giving the appearance that the Mystic sits above the roan.
