Melanistic

Melanism is a random, non-hereditary mutation that may occur in any breeding. Most notably recognized by turning the entire coat, markings and all, a rich, dark colour ranging from rusty tones to near black, melanism also hides or suppresses all white markings on the coat, rendering them invisible.

These markings include:
Natural White, Laced, Oduud, Rabicano, Sabino, Tear, Appaloosa, Overo, Roan, Splash, Tobiano, Marbled, Tsasan, Quagga, Blizzard, Vitiligo.

Melanistic may fade out along the flank, belly, chest and throat, leaving behind the lighter base underneath.
