Dapples

Dapples are a free marking allowed on any coat. While some genes like sooty, grey and champagne can cause dapples, any horse with a healthy weight and coat may develop them. Dapple will not be expressed in the phenotype. Often believed to be caused by sunbleaching, dapples will lay above all markings, though are typically difficult to see on lighter markings.

Dapples appear as light spots on the coat, with a soft edged star or block-like shape. They tend to be concentrated along the topline, rump and shoulders, where the sun hits the body most often. They won't concentrate on the legs or belly.

Dapples are never hard edged or solid. Dapples may touch, but shouldn't heavily overlap each other.
